Weaver mourns the passing of Mr Zepheniah Phiri Maseko 1927-2015

It is with great sorrow that Weaver Press has learned of the death of Mr Zepheniah Phiri Maseko, case subject of the moving story of The Water Harvester by Mary Witoshynsky.

Founder of the Vulindhlebe Soil and Water Conservation Project in 1984 and the Zvishavane Water Project in 1986, Mr Phiri was an inspiration to many small-scale farmers not just in his home area of Madziwa, Zvishavane but to farmers throughout the continent and in the West. He was winner of the National Geographic Society Award in 2006 and the University of Zimbabwe gave him a Life-Time Achievement Award in 2010.

A generous, humorous man who always wore his success lightly, he will be greatly missed by his family and his friends.
